I thought for sure that switching over to cruelty free products was going to cause some strife between my husband and I, he's definitely a man of habit and has used the same hygiene products for years and years. So not only was I going to have to convince him to try using new products, I was also going to have make the jump in cost seem worth it as well. I knew that he loved animals, almost as much as I, which is part of why I married him in the first place, but I was still surprised when he agreed immediately!

Since he's been on board, we've been slowly replacing items in our house to products that support our beliefs. Most recently, we've switched to a new toothpaste and I've tried a different brand of nail polish. We looked at using Tom's of Maine toothpaste, however while T.O.M is cruelty free they are owned by Colgate-Palmolive who are definitely NOT cruelty free. We chose Jāsön brand tooth paste, SeaFresh flavor and I chose Sonia Kashuk nail color.

When I used the toothpaste for the first time, I was slightly horrified at the color. It is a see through yellow-ish color. In all honestly, it looks pretty gross, it reminds me of something that you would see expressed in a Dr. Pimple Popper video. I was less than excited to stick it in my mouth.

But I had things to do, and time was of the essence so off I went. Tasted ok, wasn't extremely minty fresh, but didn't taste badly either. Foamed up as normal toothpaste does but as I was getting close to being done brushing, and started spitting and rinsing, I realized that at no point did my mouth ever feel refreshed. My teeth felt clean, but my mouth still sort of felt like coffee/morning breath.

Not willing to give up quite yet, I decided to ask my husband what he thought and would try again that night. Eric said that he liked it just fine, and had no issues with it, however I felt the same way as I had that morning. Didn't have the best taste, didn't leave a fresh taste afterwards, and looked really disgusting. Overall I was very disappointed in this product, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and I will not be purchasing this product again. I have already ordered The Honest Company's toothpaste to try after we're done with the Jāsön tube.

As for the Sonia Kashuk nail color, which is a Target specific brand, I had a much better experience. The first color that I had was "In the Flesh", I filed and prepped my cuticles, applied a base coat layer and got to it. This particular color, is extremely pale, but I still got great coverage with two coats. When doing my own nails I apply the base coat, two coats of color, and then let dry overnight before applying the top coat. The next morning I thought they looked great, I was extremely happy so far, just wondering how long until it started to chip.

I was able to wear that polish for FIVE days before I removed the polish, which is unheard of for me, polish normally chips the day that I paint my nails. At the end of the five days, I didn't remove the polish because it had started to chip. I just wanted to try out the other color! I did the same process, filing and prepping my cuticles, and painted the "Grey Matter" color on. Again, waiting until the next morning to put on the top coat.

I noticed that the polish lasted for three days before I noticed a few small chips, I've had it on for seven days with only a few touch-ups. It doesn't look terrible, could definitely still pass for a nice manicure, however I will remove it tonight and pick another color. I think the reason why the first color lasted longer is because I applied a very thin coat, and with the second color I accidentally applied a much thicker coat the first time around. I notice that the thicker the coat of nail polish, the less it lasts. I would definitely recommend this brand of nail polish, and have already ordered more colors!

The other thing that I like about the Sonia Kashuk polish is that it was inexpensive, under $6 a bottle! All of the beauty products that I have been trying that are cruelty free I have ordered online at Target through the DreamTrips mall!
